I love leather for its durability.  Among all the bags in my closet, leather bags are the only ones that can withstand the testament of time.  Most bags made of cheaper materials will rip after a year or even a few months, but not leather. If you hate anything that's high maintenance like I do, you can simply let your leather bags age with time and gain its own personalities.  But if you prefer to let your leather bags reach its true potentials, the least you can do is to give it proper storage.  It will keep your leather bag looking as good as new no matter how old it is.

  • Keep it in a cool, dry place. Humidity can lead to mold, one of leather’s number one enemies
  • Keep leather out of sunlight and away from any heat sources to ensure that the skin does not dry out and crack
  • When the leather bag is not in use, it should be stored in a dust cover
  • Stuff leather bag with acid free paper to help keep its shape and help prevent dampness

I'm satisfied with just a 10-year relationship with my leather bag, but if you are ready to commit to a relationship of a lifetime, cleaning and conditioning regularly is the secret to a successful long-term relationship.
